“Its not the life that matters, its the courage that you bring to it. When you understand who and what you are, your radiance projects into the universal radiance and everything around you becomes creative and full of opportunity.” – Yogi Bhajan
“ALL OR NOTHING”
2017 brings in the energy of 10/1 with a Gift of 17/8. 2017 is a Universal Year of 1– New Beginnings, Creative Vision, Independence, and Courage. When we add 2017 (2+0+1+7) we actually get 10 before we reduce it to the single digit of 1. 10 in Akara tantric/yogic Numerology is actually a significant number; it carries all the characteristics of the number 1 with an added dynamic, amplified by the number Zero. Zero is not a throw away number but rather implies extra gifts and/or challenges and is quite powerful- from zero or nothing, everything and anything is possible. In meditation, shuniya (the zero point where no thought exists) is actually where all the answers lie. Zero is a doorway- an opportunity to drop the Ego on one side, leaving behind what is no longer working, and moving on transformed.
In the yogic numerology system of the 10 Light Bodies of Consciousness, the 10th Body is often called “one plus”; it is the Soul Body (1) -the center of our confidence, inner self, and the moving force behind our personality and how we make decisions in life – PLUS our Radiant Body (10)– the center of our radiance, royal courage, finesse, and grace. It is the outmost edge of the aura and what allows us to “stand out”. 10 is the archetype of the Queen, King, and Warrior. 10 is about leadership, excellence, and accomplishments. When our 10th Body is strong we are able to project what we are on the inside (Soul), on the outside- standing in our light and brilliance; graceful and humble.
The Universal Influence of 2017 is a 10/1 and so this is the energy that will influence our journey this year. I see 2017 as the dawn of a new day. 10 in the Tarot is the Wheel of Fortune and 1 is connected to the Magician as well as the Sun in Astrology. As I write this I’m reminded of these words from Leonard Cohen’s song, Anthem: “There is a crack in everything, that’s how the light gets in”. 2016 forced us to reach a level of sophistication and completion, expanding us in one way or another, and ultimately leaving us cracked and changed in some way; 2017 is the light that can now shine through that crack/awakening. Like a chick hatching from its egg; reaching a level of completion in its growth within that shell and now ready to start its new journey out in the world. It takes courage, faith, and a deep understanding of Self in order to brave the journey ahead. This year is a turning point for the better. An opportunity to manifest our hopes and dreams with the understanding of Self- What are you made of? What are your gifts? What are your talents? What moves you? In the Solar System, the planets revolve around the Sun and depend on the Sun for energy. The key to manifesting the journey ahead in all that we wish it to be will require us to remember that we are the Sun and our hopes and dreams are the Solar System- they rely on our energy, will, and focus to come alive. It will be essential for us to tap into our individual truth, vision, and vitality this year in order to create all that we want. The idea that “the stuff” is outside of us, or is controlled by someone else, will no longer work. 10 energy is ALL OR NOTHING. We will either be all in on what we are doing and where we are going, or we’ll want nothing to do with it. Balance will be important this year as the 10th Body governs the Nervous System – extreme highs and lows could make you feel drained in your body and in your mind. Conscious breathing can strengthen your vitality/energy and is also the Gift of this year (8). Wearing white helps to strengthen your Radiant Body as well. Proper nutrition and healthy elimination will be essential to keep our Soul Body (1) in check so that we feel supported and confident.
I mentioned in the beginning that the Gift of this year is 17. 17 is a significant number in yogic numerology before its reduced to 8. 17 is about spiritual and financial good fortune. 17 in the tarot is The Star- the energy of Inspiration, Hope, and Faith. Coming out of a 9 year where the energy of sophistication, conclusion, forgiveness, and in some cases, loss, was prevalent, seeing that we have the energy of 17 to support us as we begin anew and forge ahead is a really beautiful thing. Because 8 (1+7) is the number of healing, power, authority, and fear- 17 offers us the opportunity to heal old patterns surrounding fear, power, and money while lending support in these areas as well. 17 doesn’t mean that we will be free of challenges or hiccups, life happens after all, but the gift of this vibration is in the right things at the right time; what we need, when we need it. Building our Pranic Body (Breath/Life Force) this year will be essential and give us the courage and vitality necessary to make the most of the opportunities we are presented with. Our breath is our direct connection to our Soul (1) and this will help us really tune into our truth and better gauge what is in alignment with our purpose.
A short personal story on the power/blessing of 17: On the 17th of December my husband, 7 year old son, and I flew into New York City for a week long family vacation. We arrived at the space where we would be staying during our time in the city and not one hour later (as we waited for our takeout to arrive) my son slipped in the kitchen, slicing his face open with the corner of the countertop. Total freak accident (it was Mercury Retrograde after all). My heart sank and it took me a good minute to gather my thoughts while my husband applied pressure to control the bleeding. We managed to temporarily patch him up so he could at least eat some of his dinner (it was a long flight from LA to NYC and we had barely eaten anything all day). The minute I saw the gash I knew it was a definite trip to the nearest urgent care or ER. I called down to the doorman in the building who was kind enough to write a few options down for us. When we finally made it downstairs he tells us that a Doctor who lives in the building just happened to walk in after we hung up and they advised against the urgent care and recommend that we take our son to NYU. Upon arriving at the Emergency room, our son was registered and seen within 5 minutes. 10 minutes later the attending Physician checks him out (who by the way, looked like he had not slept in a week and really was not giving us that warm, fuzzy feeling) and says he’ll need 5-6 stitches. Okay we thought, not ideal but totally okay considering it was a superficial injury with nothing else to worry about. In the meantime I paid our hospital copay (which was nothing compared to what it would have been had I left our insurance card back home like I had planned on doing). A few minutes later, another ER Doctor comes over and says, “I can take him now if he’s ready and it looks like we can get him patched up with just 2 stitches”. We just went from 6 stitches to 2 in a matter of minutes! Good Fortune was on our side- This Doctor was gentle, kind, funny, and totally proficient in his work. We were in and out in less than an hour when it was all said and done and our son Cohen never skipped a beat. In fact, that night as we put him to bed, he looked up at us and with the most sincere look on his face says, “thank you guys so much for bringing me to New York; I’m so happy to be here”. It was his pick for winter vacation this year and our hearts just melted. We enjoyed the rest of our time in the city so much and it was like it never happened- a minor hiccup. The power of that 17 on that December day graced us with healing and exactly what we needed, when we needed it.
I hope my story will serve you in understanding the Gift of the energy of 17 this year. May we remember to breathe so that we can tap into the core of our being; our courage and our strength. May we self-initiate to create our best life; wish upon a star; feel inspired; and above all, understand that there is nothing outside of us- every answer, every opportunity, every hope, every wish, resides in us.
May you be lit from within. Sat Nam.
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn’t serve the world. There’s nothing enlightening about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” -Marianne Williamson
